Inter Milan 2-1 Palermo

MILAN - Patrick Vieira and Luis Jimenez scored either side of Marco Materazzi's own goal to keep Serie A leaders Inter six points clear of Roma.

Vieira gave the Nerazzurri a dream start, heading past Fontana in the 5th minute after a defence-splitting one-two with Ibrahimovic.
Palermo's first chance of the game came on 16 minutes when Julio Cesar kept out Rinaudo's glancing header from Miccoli's free kick.

Vieira signalled a return to top form with some inch-perfect passing in midfield and went close to a second, heading Chivu's free kick just wide.

The Rosanero equalised against the run of play in the 26th minute. Materazzi unwittingly turned into his own net after Julio Cesar parried Simplicio's follow-up after fumbling Miccoli's long-range effort.

Inter could have edged back in front within sixty seconds but Jimenez was flagged offside when prodding home after Vieira's placed shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced back into open play.

Jimenez restored Inter's lead ten minutes before half time, latching on to Maicon's low pass and losing his marker to fire home from close range.

Inter had the better chances throughout a lower-key second half, with Burdisso heading just wide before Ibrahimovic had two efforts in quick succession blocked by Fontana and Zaccardo.
Palermo went close to a late equaliser when Jankovic's diving header finished inches wide.
